77th National Independence Day Celebrations

National Independence Day celebration is something unique to St.Xavier’s College, Thumba. Perhaps, St.Xavier’s is the only college in Kerala which celebrates the Independence Day with such pomp and grandeur, and was a grand success. Several days of military training have developed discipline and self-respect and also the respect for the freedom fighters and the Great Nation, India among the students of  the College. The celebration was enriched by the esteemed Chief Guest, Dr. Shashi Tharoor, MP, Thiruvanamthapuram. His presence and keynote address motivated the young blood. The chief guest was received by the Principal, Fr. (Dr.)  V Y Dasappan S J and Loyola school band, followed by guard of honour by NCC Army and Naval cadets, led by NCC Army UO. Abhishek T S. The parade started at 10.30am with the permission of the chief guest, led by the parade commander, NCC Navy PO Cdt. Abhishek Xavier. Following the welcome address of the Principal, Dr. Shashi Tharoor MP hoisted the National Flag and inspected the parade. It was followed by the march past of NCC Riffle platoon led by parade commander, PO Cdt. Abhishek Xavier. It was followed by NCC Army Platoon, NCC Navy Platoon, NSS, Winner’s Academy and platoons of 9 departments of the college. Meanwhile 3 NCC Army and 3 NCC Naval cadets and 2 NSS volunteers were honoured for their achievements. The parade ended by the vote of thanks of S/Lt. Rajesh M, Vice-Principal & ANO, NCC Navy in the presence of Dr Fr Biju Joy (Bursar), Smt Reshmi poulose (Vice principal), Smt Divya Mol (PTA President), Sri Alex M (Caretaker, NCC Army) and Adv. Shaji Chirayinkeezhu. The programme was concluded at 11am with NCC song and a few patriotic cultural programmes. A large number of audience of around 700 people including students, teaching & non-teaching staff, parents, Alumni and PTA. The college PTA provided the whole hearted supported by meeting the full expenses of the programme.
