REVISITING CLASSICS: An International Perspective
The Sahitya Akademy, New Delhi and St. Xavier's College Thumba jointly organized a literary forum on Literature, Culture and Communication - Revisiting Classics: An International Perspective.
The international seminar was on 7th December 2018 at St. Xavier's College Auditorium. Inaugural session was presided over by Adv. Fr. Pious Vachaparambil SJ, Manager of the college. Dr. Meena T Pillai, Professor-Institute of English, University of Kerala lighted the lamp to inaugurate the seminar. Dr. (Fr.) V Y Dasappan SJ (Principal, St.Xavier's College Thumba) and Dr. T K Santhoshkumar (Convenor and HoD of Malayalam & Mass Communication) addressed the gathering. The first session was on 'Revisiting Shakespear: A Post Colonial Indian Reading' by Dr. Meena T Pillai and was chaired by Dr. (Fr.) V Y Dasappan SJ. In session II, Dr. James W Earl (Professor Emeritus of English University of Oregon USA) presented a paper on 'American Reading of Mahabharatha - An Inter Cultural Project' and the session was chaired by Mrs. Kukku Xavier (Assistant Professor in English, All Saints College Thiruvananthapuram). The third session was chaired by Mrs. Sonia J Nair (Assistant Professor, All saints College) and the session was on 'Why Read the Classics - Revisiting Italio Calvino: An American Perspective' presented by Dr. Louise M Bishop (Professor Emeritus of English University of Oregon USA). Fourth session was on 'Revisiting G M Hopkins: A Contemporary Eco Spiritual Reading' by Dr.(Fr.) V Y Dasappan SJ which was chaired by Mrs. Celine P C (Assistant Professor of English, St. Xavier's College Thumba). The last session was by Mr. C Ashokan (Assistant Director, Publication & Editor Vinjanakairali, State Institute of Languages) which was chaired by Dr. Chris George (Principal, Marian College Menamkulam). All the sessions were followed by active discussion between the rich audience and the resource persons.
