On July 3, 2024, the NCC Naval Wing of St. Xavier’s College, Thumba, organized an event at Menamkulam to commemorate International Plastic Bag Free Day. The event aimed to raise awareness about the environmental impact of plastic bags and promote the use of eco-friendly alternatives like paper bags.

The programme was inaugurated by the manager, Fr. (Dr) Sunny Jose SJ, and included a bike rally, an awareness speech, a demonstration of paper bag making, and the distribution of paper bags. Twenty-five naval cadets actively participated in the event, demonstrating their commitment to environmental sustainability.
