The Department of History at St. Xavier's College celebrated Gandhi Jayanti on October 1, 2024, with a series of meaningful activities that honored the life and legacy of Mahatma Gandhi. As part of the event, students curated a collection of rare photographs of Gandhiji, while others gathered some of his most famous quotes. These visual and literary tributes were thoughtfully displayed outside the department, creating a reflective atmosphere for visitors.
The event's chief guest, Dr. P. Jinimon, Assistant Professor of History at the University of Kerala, Kariyavattam, delivered a compelling address on the enduring relevance of Gandhiji’s teachings in today’s society. His speech highlighted how Gandhi's principles of non-violence, truth, and social justice continue to inspire modern movements around the world.
In the afternoon, a quiz competition was held, attracting participation from more than 20 groups across various departments. The Department of History emerged victorious, with the Departments of Chemistry and BMMC securing second and third places, respectively.
The program concluded at 3:30 PM, leaving attendees with a renewed appreciation for the Mahatma's contributions and their relevance in contemporary times.
